Canada’s Premier Highlights Peace Prospects in Ukraine

(MENAFN) Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney stated Tuesday that there was a chance for peace in Ukraine during a 30-nation Coalition of the Willing gathering in Paris.

“We are seeing the opportunity to have a just and sustainable peace,” Carney remarked at a press briefing held at the Canadian Embassy in France. “The goal is to finalize security guarantees.”

Carney also signed an agreement aimed at safeguarding Ukraine from potential future Russian aggression should a peace accord be reached in Paris.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s former deputy prime minister and foreign minister, was appointed by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as an economic advisor.

Other matters discussed at the Paris summit included the U.S. initiative to gain control of Greenland for security purposes and its military campaign in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

Carney met with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday and noted in a press release that he “emphasized Canada’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Denmark, including Greenland.”

The Canadian leader also held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

According to a statement, Carney "reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to strengthening the (NATO) alliance and contributing to its capabilities."
